Process More Difficult With Back Pain Pregnancy

Summary:

Back pain is very common during pregnancy. This is because of the excessive pressure on the back due to the weight gain in the abdominal region. However, this should not be taken lightly and it should not be accepted as something that is ‘normal’ during this phase. A woman has to go through so many things during pregnancy and a backache can worsen the situation even further. If the backache is neglected during pregnancy, it could lead to severe pain during delivery. Hence, it is important to address the back-related issues as soon as they manifest and it has to be managed throughout the pregnancy.

Although back pain is quite common during pregnancy, this is something that cannot be neglected. If the woman suffers from chronic back pain during her pregnancy, she is likely to suffer from postpartum back pain as well. Postpartum back pain is the pain that is felt after the delivery. Hence, it is important to seek medical attention at the onset of pain instead of allowing the pain to aggravate. In the same manner, it is important to check postpartum pain and the patient should be put under observation to see if the pain lasts for more than eight weeks. If the pain persists, treatment and therapy should be rendered immediately in order to avoid recurring attacks.

At least 80% of pregnant women go through back pain during pregnancy. The back pain may either be chronic where they last for more than three months or, they may be acute where they last for a few weeks but less than three months.

According to studies that have been conducted, the back pain during pregnancy normally starts during the 5th or the 7th month of pregnancy. This is the time the fetus grows in the womb and there is a lot of additional weight around the waist and abdomen. This weight puts pressure on the lower back and that leads to back pain. However, there are instances where the back pain may begin during the 8th or the 12th week itself. Some women are prone to having back aches and they are generally at a greater risk of developing back ache during pregnancy and they may also show signs of having back pain during the early stages.

Pregnant women may have two types of back ache. They might have either of the two or a combination of both the types. One is the lumbar pain which is felt in the lower back and the other is the posterior pelvic pain which is felt in the lower back bone. However, this should not be confused with the labor pain that may also be felt in the low back area.

Back pain in the lumbar region during pregnancy is the same as the pain felt at any other time. The pain is felt in the upper section of the body above the waist and the muscles around the spine may be tender. However, posterior pelvic pain is felt below the waistline and it may be felt on one side or on both sides and both types of pain can be very difficult during pregnancy.
