Can Gallstones Cause Back Ache?

Summary:

This article analyzes the relationship between gallbladder disease and back pain.

Gallbladder is a petite pear-shaped organ situated at the right upper quadrant of the stomach, just on the underside of the liver. Its primary function is to collect and store bile, produced in the liver. Bile is an essential catalyst that helps to digest fats, and facilitates the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K. However, due to certain biological factors, the gallbladder inflates and its function is disrupted. Consequently, it stops the digestion of fats, resulting in indigestion and severe aches in the upper abdomen that may radiate to the lower
back.

Causes:

Disease of the gallbladder and associated backache are reasonably common and can impinge on both women and men. It is caused when the cholesterol and billiruben levels increases excessively in the bile and solidifies it, thus turning into gallstones, which may begin to block the bile duct. The chief causes include the following you need to be aware of:

•Inadequate production of bile

•Toxic bile produced by the liver

•Infection in the gallbladder

•High cholesterol levels in the bile, forming gallstone

•Blood infection or disorder

•Hormonal changes during pregnancy

Symptoms:

Usually 90% of the gallstones are silent and cause no symptoms; only 2% individuals may develop and suffer from gallbladder disease. They may experience:

•Sever pain in the right upper part of the abdomen occurring every few days, months, weeks or even year.

•Usually the pain would kick off 30 minutes after consuming greasy meal

•The pain initiates on a mild, and grows into shooting and constant ache. The attack may last anywhere between few minutes to several hours

•The pain may spread to the lower back or the right shoulder

•Usually the pain strikes the patient during the night when in deep slumber

•Patient may move around and ingest gas relief medication, yet the pain does not subside

•Nausea and vomit

•Complaint of indigestion, bloating and belching after consuming meals

•Fever

•Jaundice

Treatment:

•Several over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen can help relive the pain and indigestion.

•Stay off the greasy foods

•Drink plenty of clear fluids

Immediate medical help should be sought when the condition begins to worsen, i.e. despite taking the medication the pain only continues to grow, accompanied by vomiting or development of fever and chills. Follow these methods for treatments and you will be relieved from not only your gall bladder, but along with getting a back pain relief.
