Think Twice Before Heading To The Operation Room

Summary:

Before your doctor advice for a back ache surgery, you must weigh the pros and cons of the surgery, as high level of risk is involved in the surgery. Unless you are absolutely sure that you need a surgery, do not play with your spine.

Lower back ache bags the #1 spot in the list of physical ailments that keeps millions of American away from work. Contradictory to the regular notion, hospitals in the nation offer surgery and medication as the answer for healing the agonizing back ache, compassion is left far behind in the picture. Instead of visiting the ER room for obtaining a prescription on back ache, you must conduct a research on the subject and select an appropriate solution to your problem. You can easily avoid undergoing cumbersome and expensive tests like MRI and CT scan, if you simply investigate your condition.

My personal experience was quite dreadful. After waiting for couple of hours in the waiting room of the ER, I got to the physician, and then I had to wait for an additional hour to receive the news form the nurse that I should be visiting my primary doctor for unhealthy eating habits. I was in a rude shock, as they were indicating that I was seeking medication and not suffering from an excruciating back ache. In fact I had recently undergone two MRI scans at the same hospital reflecting that I indeed suffer from herniated discs. To add insult to my injuries, I was slapped with a bill for the visit. I wonder why they charged, when all they did was to turn me away. Do patients have to pay for being turned away in the most critical hours?

The lesson I learned was that unless you are a victim of a horrific car accident, and wheeled on a stretcher, visiting the ER for back ache is a sheer wastage of money and time. And, not to forget the humiliation you feel after passing through the whole ordeal. It seems that people suffering from chronic back ache are plainly not believed.

The fact of the matter is that chronic back ache sufferers are discriminated in Uncle Sam. It seems all the fellows sailing in my boat should raise their voices and write to their senators, because how long can we go on like this? Since, doctors have closed their ears towards genuine patients suffering from chronic pain daily, and raged a war against them; the wrong picture has to be corrected.

Even though the American healthcare is the best in the world, yet treatment for something as simple as low back pain is hard to get. I hope for my fellow citizens that they may find a sympathetic doctor who genuinely understands their chronic pain and are eager to help them out immediately, instead of asking them to wait in the ER lounge.

Since, doctors in the modern world are more focused on their own interest rather than the patient’s. I wonder if they still take the oath to help the sick and suffering?
