Yoga For Back Pain Relief

The back is a complex part of the body which consists of the bones, muscles, nerves and soft tissues. The back is an extremely important part of the body because the spinal cord is located in the back and the spine serves as a frame for the entire body. The muscles in the back work in combination with the muscles of the abdominal region to help maintain the posture of the body. A lot of people experience pain in the back region if the stress on the body increases due to continuous work. This sort of a back pain may affect the productivity of a person in work and learning. There are some commonly experienced symptoms of back pain which include spasms, stiffness of the back, feeling of numbness and at times pain in the legs is also experienced by a lot of people due to the pain in the back. In the United States a large number of doctors treat back related issues on a regular basis. However, people experiencing back pain must not lose heart because the issue has a lot of treatments and medications and one such treatment is with the help of the ancient meditative exercise of India known as Yoga.
Till very recently, the only few treatments recommended for chronic back ache were rest and medications. However, now even doctors recommend the effective methods of yoga for relief from back ache. Yoga has moved on from being an orthodox spiritual discipline of the Far East to a mainstream healing and fitness technique that is taught and practiced in gyms and health centers around the world. Yoga not only helps in the relief of back pain but is also effective in strengthening the bones and muscles of the body. This ancient technique helps in reducing stress and alleviates relaxation. The method in which yoga works is by building the strength of the body, improving flexibility and by reducing the pain experienced in joints and muscles.
Some of the other benefits that can be attained through yoga include benefits such as increasing the strength of the muscles in the abdomen, hands and legs. It increases endurance and stamina and helps in releasing physical tension which in turn helps in maintaining a good body posture and improves the performance and productivity of a person.
It should be noted that all forms of yoga cannot be used for back pain. If the severity of the back pain is more or if there is an injury then only slow paced and gentle stretch exercises of yoga should be practiced failing which the exercises may increase the level of discomfort.
Viniyoga is a form of yoga developed which mainly teaches precise deep breathing and slow stretches. Similarly, Iyengar yoga focuses mainly on accurate alignment of the body. Students who learn this technique of yoga make use of props such as straps, blocks, blankets etc. this stream of yoga is for those who are not completely mobile and are physically dependent.
It is advised that yoga should be done with the approval of a personal physician because if a person has any injuries to various parts of the body then it may not be possible for the person to do the exercises. While learning yoga it is important that the exercises are done with proper guidance and supervision without which the people doing the exercises may get injured. In the initial stages people may feel body pain and fatigue which subsides as the exercises are done on a routine basis. The overall health and strengthening of the body can be achieved with the help of yoga.
